Weighing In on the Power of Positive Thinking

One of the biggest challenges that plague dieters is a negative attitude. If you’ve ever been on a diet and found yourself thinking, “I can’t do it,” then you are not alone. Negative thoughts are considered one of the leading causes of failed diets. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be that way. Weight loss (and happiness in life) can be best achieved with the right mindset. No matter your defeatist reasoning,– constant hunger, lack of support, no willpower, unwillingness to give up fattening foods—just know it doesn’t have to be so hard. Getting your priorities straight and adopting a positive attitude can be your secret to weight loss success.

Dieting Willpower: You CAN do it!

Good news, you can lose weight! It’s really true. If you ask the experts at the Mayo Clinic (mayoclinic.org), they’ll tell you much of people’s success or failure with their diet can be traced back to their attitude at the outset. How many times have you thought, “Ugh, I have to start this diet…starting Monday, I’m going to give up all desserts, snacks, and sodas. I’m only going to eat salad. I’m going to go kill myself at the gym…every evening.” Now, that doesn’t sound too promising, does it? We don’t think so either, and our medical science expert friends at Mayo agree.

Focus on the Positives, Eliminate the Negatives

Focusing on the negatives (i.e. the things you’re going to give up or miss eating while dieting) puts you in the frame of mind that you’re sacrificing or missing out on something good. As a result, instead of focusing on doing what’s best for your body, you’re only focusing on things you don’t want to do. This is a negative approach to dieting and will surely set you up for weight loss failure. Consider instead adopting a positive point of view, starting focusing on the many good things that result from a healthy diet, including things like: a slimmer, more attractive body; a decreased risk of diet-induced health conditions; a feeling of greater health; increased energy; improved health and nutrition; and the list goes on. This simple shift in attitude can make a mighty difference in you dieting success and can do wonders for your outlook on life, too!

Embrace the good that comes from dieting. Celebrate the idea that you are improving the way you eat and that you’re doing good things for your body. By adopting a healthier, happier way of thinking is a great way to set yourself up for success. Sounds much better, doesn’t it?

Positivity and Ideal Protein, Your Recipes for Weight Loss Success

Now to be clear, while the power of positive thinking is a powerful strategy it, alone, is not a 100% guaranteed to weight loss success, it is a key ingredient. To be fair, we must recognize that, yes, there will still be cravings; there will be well-meaning friends and family members who just want you to “try one tiny piece of cake.” But, with a good attitude, the difference is it’s much easier to stave off these external forces if you’re not already fighting off internal forces!

So remember to stay strong and treat your diet as an opportunity to try new and healthy foods—ones you may never have been motivated to try before. And if you find yourself in need of some encouragement, don’t forget that BodyTech coaches are just one phone call, text or email away–ready to help you maintain a good frame of mind and keep your diet on track.

BOTTOMLINE: With a good attitude, you’ll find it much easier to achieve your weight loss goals, and also be able to enjoy all the benefits of healthy eating and positive thinking.
