Mushrooms are great for more than just your diet.
You may know that mushrooms are low on the glycemic index and therefore great for your diet, but did you know that they may also help fight aging? Newsweek recently posted an article claiming that “mushrooms are without a doubt the highest known single source of the antioxidants ergothioeine and glutathione, which are both associated with anti-aging properties”
While it’s all preliminary, other countries that have more ergothioneine in their diets (France and Italy for example) have lower incidence of neurodegenerative diseases, while the USA which has lower amounts of ergothioneine, have a higher incidence of diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s (many age related diseases).
While the findings show that mushrooms “may” help fight aging, but not conclusive to being the superfood as thought, why not add them to your diet. We know that they “do” help keep you full without causing weight gain. The good news is that raw mushrooms are unlimited while on all phases of the weight loss protocol.
